Tom Sachs Studio
I was a fan of the artist Tom Sachs for many years and through a series of random encounters he came to know and appreciate my work too. I was honored to work alongside Tom and his team during the Mars mission at the Park Avenue Armory. While there I worked on the Indoctrination Station, the Rendezvous Radar Antenna on top of the LEM, and on a limited edition piece directly under Tom's supervision. The piece was released officially about 4 years later in an edition of 24. Below is an evolution from my prototypes to the final (the last image).
Artist Tom Sachs has recreated an entire four week mission to Mars with nothing but household objects. Working with Nasa and Jet Propulsion Laboratory, his studio created go-kart rovers, wooden rockets, and space sculptures. All of this makes his Park Ave. Armory (NYC) live show "Space Program: Mars" quite the adventure.
